What once started out as a dumb joke band to make a few bucks has turned into Madison’s favorite cover band. The Hometown Sweethearts made their debut in the parking lot of a family restaurant every Thursday afternoon. Playing to almost no-one week after week, they learned a set of tunes that kept them in high spirits (pun intended). Soon, people noticed they were there and started making a habit of coming out every week to cheer on this group of goofballs. After a while, they started playing other popular spots in Madison, such as the Weary Traveler and The Great Dane on off nights, and seemed to make a dance party out of virtually nothing. No small feat.

On lead vocals and guitar, Waylan Nate Palan is a member of other popular Madison outfits The Kissers and Electric Automatic. CB is most known as a member of the dirty old time blues band, “Cash Box Kings” as well as Catfish Stephenson’s bass player. Drummer Scott Beardsley, member of the classic “Lorenzo’s Music” lineup, also plays with CB in such Madison staples as Beggar's Tune.

The Hometown Sweethearts cover songs they love. Fortunately, they are finicky music lovers. Instead of covering the same old songs heard again and again, they perform the forgotten songs; songs you danced to in your room; songs your grandparents sung to you; the songs you thought only you remembered. They are like the new nostalgic radio station, only they don’t stick to any format. They go from Elvis Costello to Elvis Presely; Elton John to Motorhead, Jessie's Girl to Punk Rock Girl. New Wave, old country, indie rock, movie songs, TV theme songs, disco, you name it. They’ve been together just over a year and their repertoire has surpassed 100 songs.

The best way to describe a live show is “fun.” It’s like watching The Three Stooges sometimes. Cracking jokes and clapping after their own songs, it’s hard to not have a great time during a Hometown Sweethearts show.

The Sweethearts are the band everyone can agree on. With a repertoire that ranges from the 40’s to now, there is no ground they haven’touched. They are available for any party imaginable, and often enjoy the odd shows more. Let them know you want to party!
